| 内容記述 | Objective: This study examined new graduate nurses having previous work experience, and the factors enabling their continued employment as nurses, in order to clarify the current situation and challenges faced by these new graduate nurses. Methods: A semi-structured interview survey was conducted with 18 new graduate nurses having previous work experience at 11 facilities in the Kinki region of Japan. The interview survey with the new graduate nurses included analysis of their responses by using the KJ method for categorization, and by using version 3 of the KH Coder (Higuchi, 2014) to analyze the relationships between the factors enabling continued employment. Results: Analysis of the new graduate nurse interviews provided the following observations: (1) The new graduate nurses having previous work experience could be classified into four categories: ①“financial independence”, ②“experience and knowledge as a member of society,” ③“enhanced support system” and ④“self-growth.” (2) The categories of “enhanced support system” and “self-growth” include improving a nurse’ s “experience and knowledge as a member of society”, and will contribute to their abilities to continue their current occupations. This contribution to their abilities will substantially support and develop their continued professional employment as nurses. (3) Determining if new graduate nurses with previous work experience can continue to work, or not, depends on whether the four factors which enable continued employment will progress in a complementary manner, or if these factors will become antagonistic or conflicting. Further challenges: (1) The number of interviewees for this study was relatively small in number and limited to medium-sized hospitals in the Kinki region of Japan. It would be beneficial to further expand the scope of the investigation, and deepen the verification of the analysis. It would also be beneficial to consider additional comparisons with new graduates. (2) It would be beneficial to make certain modifications to the current nurse educational program, to enable it, to become more effective for new graduate nurses having previous work experience. |
