| 内容記述 | This paper analyzes the social functions of public alternative schools in the United States, with a particular focus on charter schools and homeschooling. These two educational models have experienced significant growth over the past decade, despite numerous drawbacks, limitations, and ongoing criticism. This paradox suggests the presence of both manifest (explicitly intended) and latent (unintended) social functions that support their continued expansion. The analysis draws on publicly available statistical data from the U.S. Department of Education, as well as research produced by institutions specializing in alternative education. In addition to the expected manifest functions, the following three latent functions were identified: 1. The rise of these alternative school models fosters the formation of nationwide networks. These networks, in turn, serve as expansive forums for creativity, contributing to individuals’ sense of purpose and overall life enrichment. 2. The expansion of these networks and creative forums contributes to broader economic revitalization. 3. The development of these networks also has a positive impact on minority populations, promoting inclusion and engagement across diverse communities. |
