| 内容記述 | This study examines the historical development and contemporary transformations of the Mazu cult in the Hanshin region of Japan, with particular attention to its relationship with Chinese merchant associations. Originating in Fujian, China, the cult of Mazu spread overseas through maritime networks and Chinese migration, becoming an important religious tradition among overseas Chinese communities. In the Hanshin region, the Mazu cult developed in close connection with Chinese merchant organizations, which played a central role in establishing temples, organizing rituals, and sustaining devotional activities. In recent years, newly arrived Fujianese merchants have significantly contributed to the revitalization and institutional consolidation of the cult, reshaping its organizational structure and expanding its social functions. By analyzing the interaction between religious practice and commercial associations, this study demonstrates how diaspora religious traditions are maintained and transformed through changing economic actors and community structures in contemporary Japan. |
