Results showed that, after cancer diagnosis, patients experienced death anxiety to a varying extent and were at increased risk for psychological instability, and therefore the necessity of psychological support was reaffirmed to patients after cancer diagnosis.\nFurthermore, this study identified factors that increased the risk of psychological problems for patients after receiving cancer diagnosis and clarified the importance of the role of patientsʼfamilies as a support system．This study suggested that a counseling session as early as possible after cancer diagnosis could lead to patientʼs need for psychological supports from this point forward. Additionally, this study clarified factors for clinical psychologists to consider when providing support to patients after cancer diagnosis. This study revealed that clinical \npsychologists should pay attention to reactions outside the range of general reactions which patients had after cancer diagnosis and recognize revealing clues about patients' psychological states from their reactions. This study emphasized the notion that clinical psychologists should bear in mind that the unique individuality of each patient is of utmost importance. This study suggested that clinical psychologist should focus less on “cancer” and more on “people with cancer ”. Therefore, psychologists need to attend not only to how patients approach cancer and its treatment, but also to how psychological issues patients have. Regarding challenges for the future, this study showed the need to conduct an assessment which includes the unconscious elements of cancer patientsʼ psychologies by projective psychological tests such as Baum test. This study suggested that incorporating the perspective of image, such as that appeared in Baum tests and dreams, could be beneficial in the psychological support of patients with cancer.
