This paper will describe what child abuse occurs in Canada and how the school social worker treats with it. Also, I would like to explore the difference between child abuse in Canada and that of Japan. Child rearing system is one of the most important issues in Canada and the Canadian government spends an enormous amount of energy and money on it. The Children's Aid Society of Toronto is one of the largest child welfare organizations in North America. It is an incorporated and non-profi table agency that is governed by a volunteer board of directors, and is funded by the Province of Ontario. CAS protects children from abuses including neglect and helps their parents build the healthy family relationship, and the organization gives the young adults and their children the safe place. CAS also gives the legal mandate to the staff members. They can intervene in the problematic families and protect the children from abuses, when necessary. All of the staff members of this organization are given the powerful right to do their job. For example, when a staff member doubts that a child might be abused by his or her parent(s), they can separate the child from his or her parent(s) in order to protect the child. In order to know the actual effect of School Counseling in Canada, I had an interview with the social worker who has worked at the Toronto District School Board for thirteen years. Throughout the interview, I’ve found out the very curious points. School social workers give counseling to students at almost all schools, and, in many cases, students’ absence from school indicates that they suffer from child abuse. Child abuse is one of the serious problems in Canada as well as in Japan. The system of school counselors has already been arranged in Japan. Though the system of school social workers in North America might work very effectively in the matter of child abuse, I strongly believe that Japan does not need to have school social workers., 12, KJ00005563379, 研究ノート, Notes}, pages = {109--120}, title = {【研究ノート】カナダにおける児童虐待とスクールカウンセリング事情}, volume = {1}, year = {2009}, yomi = {ミツバヤシマユミ} }
