| 内容記述 | The present paper discusses the Japanese emotion “Urami”（similar to grudge/ resentment）, through analysis of the Yokyoku（stories of Noh drama）“Izutsu” and “Aoi-noue”. The paper fi rst explore the similarity between “Mugen Noh”（dream narrative）of Noh and psychotherapy. Next, three methods are used to expand the images of “Urami”: 1）Comparison between the stories “Izutsu” and “Aoi-no-ue” ; 2）examination of the structural roots of the characters “ 恨” and “ 怨”（which are both “Urami”）. It seems that “Urami” is related to the emotions “Miren”（regret）and “Aware”（aesthetic response to the transience of beautiful things）, in addition to which “Urami” includes not only aggression but also sorrow. Further examination of “Izutsu” and “Aoi-no-ue” suggests that in order for the sublimation of “Urami” to take place, it is necessary for the person who holds the grudge to face the sorrow seriously. It is also gathered that for a person who holds the Japanese emotion “Urami”, it is expressed in three ways; to narrate “Urami” ;to be unable to narrate it ; and to not narrate it. The Japanese seem to prefer to hide an emotion like “Urami” in order to prevent oneself from being wounded by the emotion. Finally, it is suggested that the sense of the evanescence of life which is valued by the Japanese and Easterners plays a major role in order for the begrudged person to face the sorrow, and it is realized that an Japanese who holds the sense of the evanescence of life is able to transform sorrow into a sense of beauty, for the Japanese waiting for better times is equivalent to the act of praying. | |||||||||||
