内容記述 | No study has so far investigated the factors involved in performance of rhythmic dance as one of activities for physical expression in the curriculum for preschool children. The present study attempted to explore the factors involved in performance of rhythmic dance focusing on sex difference, motivation and other background factors in preschool children in the middle grade (n=48, 20 boys and 28 girls; aged 4-5 years). The following evaluations were based on video images which were taken during 2 weeks of practice for the dance; an interest to the dance movement, a level of concentration to an explanation from teachers, each level of rhythmic sense and dance skill on first and second weeks after starting the practice. The detailed information regarding the background factors such as lifestyle, physical play time at home, after-school lessons, and encouragement for physical activity to the children were derived from a questionnaire completed by the children’s parents. The score for the level of concentration, level of rhythmic sense and dance skill on both weeks were significantly higher for the girls than for the boys. Furthermore, a significantly larger increment from first week to second week was observed for the score of dance performance for the girls than for the boys. Age in months, sleeping time, physical play time at home, interest in the dance movement, the level of concentration, and appetite were positively associated with the indices of dance performance. The proficiency of dance performance was significantly and positively defined by age in months, sex (female) and level of concentration after a multiple linear regression analysis. It was concluded that an apparent sex difference was found in regard to dance performance and motivation, and thus an effective way to motivate the boys in the curriculum concerning activity for physical expression was needed. Further, educator should take care to prevent the younger children from feeling inferior in the dance activity. Finally, it should be emphasized that a favorable lifestyle and physical activity are needed to bring out the preschool children’s potential. | |||||||||||||||||
