内容記述 | This essay is an academic writing skills text for teachers who teach any field of social sciences, and guide university students in an academic writing. This type of guidance is not an easy process at universities, because of the lack of it prior to tertiary education in Japan. Many books on how to write an academic essay have been published by various authors. These are difficult for most students who have not used to read academic essays, and not been trained how to write them. Therefore, teachers must translate these books into brief manuals understandable for students. A simple work sheet designed to encourage students to think logically is suggested. Students are simply directed, listening to lecture, to fill three sets of Q & A in the sheet based on the causal reasoning, in which only first question would be given by teachers in relation to their lectures. Then, students write an essay, which consists of at least three paragraphs: introduction, discussion and conclusion, according to three sets of Q & A written in the sheet. Secondly, the necessity of paragraph writing skills is explained. Focusing on the process of writing paragraphs, students learn the organizational principles of writing that will help them understand contents of academic essays effectively. They also learn to apply these principles to their own essay writing formats. | |||||||||||
