内容記述 | The purpose of this research is to analyze the therapeutic approach of bodywork to people with mental disabilities in public health centers or mental health and social welfare centers. We started to introduce the bodywork approach to people with mental disabilities initially because we had noticed the unique characteristics of body sense and feeling in them. For example, it is often observed among people with mental disabilities that their body tension and release is not smooth in various aspects of everyday life. They also seem to have difficulties in perceiving such awkwardness and un-smoothness of their own body sense. We have conducted the group bodywork approach to people with mental disabilities in a style of multi-disciplinary collaboration. Since methods like autogenic training, which uses suggestion or breathing techniques, were sometimes too demanding for people with mental disabilities, the simple body-shaking method was applied. The following were the results of analyzing our bodywork approach (The methods of analysis were participant observation, question sheets, rating scales, drawings, etc.). (1) Bodywork is effective in making the participants feel comfortable at the moment. (2) The negative feelings and physical discomfort of the participants were effectively reduced and a feeling of refreshment was obtained. (3) Some participants who could not achieve any changes in their muscle tension and body awareness showed some improvement in expressing consideration and assertiveness in personal relationships. (4) The results showed that the effectiveness of the bodywork approach appeared more significant in promoting reciprocal relationships and active communication among the participants by expressing body feeling rather than in changing their body tension, body awareness, or their emotion associated with body tension. The above results were obtained by the following process : (1) The sensation and feeling obtained by the bodywork should be expressed verbally and non-verbally by the participants. (2) After expressing their body sensation and feeling in a structured framework, others' responses and reactions should be followed in a reciprocal manner. (3) Mutually complementary relationship should be reinforced throughout the session. | |||||||||||
