内容記述 Writing ethnography has been considered a typical way of giving feedback on the outcome of anthropologists' fieldwork in a certain field. The need for exchange activities which can promote communications among different generations is strongly recognized in today's society. In this paper, to connect this need and anthropological study, the author explores the possibility of different methods of giving feedback on the anthropological fieldwork through workshops and local activities. The author also tries to propose the methods as new participating contribution of anthropology toward community vitalization and local policy making. In the first part, based on the five findings of the anthropological study of new towns in Japan, some proposals for community vitalization are recommended. First is mixing village relaxation and urban conveniences in new town settings. Secondly, small scale individual or group-oriented free market activity and living in cooperative housing are highly evaluated to promote sharing and exchange of experience within the local community. Sharing the memories of the place and creating the common memories is another important aspect of community vitalization. Information network is indispensable for community vitalization. Ujizo is a newly created term by the combination of Uji and Jizo and it means jizo in Uji. The study team called Ujizo group is composed of Kyoto Bunkyo University students, graduates and other sympathizers from outside. The activities of the group cover three main themes. One is the study on Jizo-bon in the central Uji area. The second is participating in community events to share our findings. The third fs the publication of the activity annual report and its circulation among local residents. The group utilizes basically anthropological research methods such as interviews and participating observation. Workshops both for children and adults are highly appreciated by the participants of different generations. Panel presentations and a jizo stamp rally are also organized for creating opportunities for the exchange of knowledge and experiences related to Ujizo. This activity offers an opportunity for local residents to re-discover the virtues of the local culture such as jizo and jizo-bon. It also contributes to the exchange of ideas and communication not only between researchers and local residents but also among local residents themselves.
