内容記述 | There has been much discussion on the development of new technologies of child birth. Especially nowadays, many attempts to design a new human being by cloning, and such concepts as "designer babies" have caused serious concerns. Countries on the European continent have made regulations and restrictions to control the application of the new technologies in consideration of such issues as ethics, individual rights, public order, and national resources. In this paper, I have attempted to inquire into regulations as well as the attitudes of people toward new technologies of childbirth in Switzerland and France to clarify the themes resulting from this new trend. In Switzerland, there developed rather strict regulations as in Germany and Austria, in response to the fear of introducing a eugenic point of view. In addition, every province, or canton, shows its capacity of self-government and some cantons lay down such radically strict regulations that only husband and wife can choose artificial in semination by the husband (AIH), but not by In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). From the year 2001, the situation has been in the process of change toward acceptance of more technologies, partly because of the consideration of national resources compared to other countries on the continent, and also to guard against becoming a host country for adopted children from foreign countries. However, people are paying considerable attention to the right of children to know their parents, and they will continue to give careful consideration to this matter. France's symbolic ethical code on life, put into operation in 1994, shows the intention to lead other European countries, to keep the public order, to develop the scientific power of the nation, and to produce families of the French Republic. People sometimes try to maintain stable family bonds in order not to let children created by artificial insemination by donor (AID) to seek their biological fathers. In the midst Of a rapidly changing social and scientific situation, we need to examine not only restrictions in the form of laws, but also the actual situations and the variety of people's attitudes. The means and methods of cultural anthropology would certainly be essential to that purpose. | |||||||||
