内容記述 | This paper is a study of university management from the standpoint of nonprofit organization theory, and examines management reform at private universities in Japan from the perspective of "institutional dependence". This paper sets two questions: (1) Why do universities, which should be autonomous, become dependent on others in their own management reforms? (2) If a university's management reforms are based on others, what impact will this have on the university? In order to examine the above two issues, we will analyze small private universities that have been created through reorganization and conversion from junior colleges since the 1990s. The structure of this paper is as follows: Chapter 1 clarifies the historical background of the birth of the junior college system and its reorganization into a university. Chapter 2 discusses the disadvantages that the "reorganized and converted universities" were subjected to, Chapter 3 discusses the background and process by which the government induced universities to contribute to society, and Chapter 4 summarizes this paper and discusses how university management reforms, if they are other-compliant, will affect the universities. The government-established university management system must be adhered to in order for the university to obtain the asset of legitimacy. However, the system is not always functionally effective, and compliance with the university management system alone threatens survival. |
