内容記述 Job-hunting while at university is considered to be an important life event that has a great impact on the future of students. It is also a stressful activity that can pose a significant mental burden. In the present study, we examined the relationship between self-efficacy and stress related to job-hunting in order to identify ways to prevent or alleviate such stress. To characterize the mental burden of stress related to job-hunting on the students, we first investigated the impact of stress related to job-hunting on mental health based on the association between the "12-Item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) (Japanese ver.)" and the "Job-Hunting Stress Scale". Second, using the "Job-Hunting Stress Scale" and the "Self-Efficacy Scale for Career Choice," we examined the relationship between self-efficacy and stress related to job-hunting, and examined whether improving self-efficacy would help alleviate stress related to job-hunting.
We administered a questionnaire to university students and obtained 146 responses. The results showed a positive correlation between stress related to job-hunting and the degree of mental health, indicating that the stress has a negative impact on mental health. We also identified a significantly negative correlation between stress related to job-hunting and self-efficacy, indicating that the maintenance or improvement of self-efficacy may decrease the stress. The results of regression analysis further showed that those who maintained a high level of self-efficacy had lower levels of stress related to job-hunting. In addition, the "Job-Hunting Stress Scale" showed that women felt more stress in the “Peer Comparison" sub-scale. Collectively, these results indicate that maintaining or improving self-efficacy in job-hunting activities has a certain effect on alleviating stress related to job-hunting. The implementation of measures aimed at maintaining or improving self-efficacy may be effective in preventing stress related to job-hunting.
