| 内容記述 | The purpose of this paper is to examine the case study method in clinical psychology. I conducted a literature review of discussions about the case study method in Japan, before considering the various viewpoints emerging from our experiences in case studies. In Japan, Kawai Hayao highlighted the importance of case studies by emphasizing that because clinical psychology was based on clinical practice, we should pursue individuality through case studies. It also meant that clinical psychology was developed as a new science that placed importance not only on scientific evidence but also on subjective experience. Kawai emphasized the universality of case studies which included both the clientʼs and therapistʼs subjectivity. Subsequently, this led to the proposed idea of “inter-subjective universality,” leading to the debate on the universality of case studies. Some researchers claimed that scientific verification was indispensable, and found global support for their justifications in the trends of evidence-based approach. Therefore, difficulty persisted in establishing a common recognition of the universality of case studies in clinical psychology. However, it is important to consider this issue through a wider interdisciplinary perspective. |
