内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 There is a concept in clinical psychology that is incomprehensible in other sciences: the concept of unconsciousness raised by Freud. The purpose of this study is to make this concept easy to understand. Visual images are used for this purpose. First, we chose paintings that would develop a visual understanding of the steps of discovery in Freud’s mental analysis, including Mesmer’s “animal magnetism,” Charcot’s “clinical lecture,” and Freud’s “free association using a couch.” Next, to place Freud in the historical context of natural science, we chose “Galileo’s astronomical observation” as a symbol of modern science (physics), and “anatomy lesson” as a symbol of modern medicine. In addition, education and religion were chosen as representatives of traditional humanities. We chose “Confucius preaching morality” as a symbol of education and “mediating Myoe Shonin” as a symbol of religion. Then, we compared these symbolic paintings based on Van den Berg’s phonological method to reveal Freud’s uniqueness (paradigm). We obtained the following conclusions:
(1) Freud faithfully follows natural scientific methods; specifically, his natural science is based on the facts obtained from observations and experiments. He also inheritseducation (teaching) and religion (facing the inside).
(2) Freud accepts and inherits the essence of conventional natural science and the humanities in their full form. At the same time, his uniqueness is completely different from them.
(3) The essence of Freud’s uniqueness lies in the concept of “unconsciousness.” This is a special concept that is not found in other sciences. His practices and theories are derived from this concept.
(4) Due to the concept of unconsciousness, a new path was opened to understand humans and a new job category (clinical psychologists), their role different from that of physicians, was created.
