| 内容記述 | The worship of Mazu(Tenpi), the goddess of navigation originating from Fujian Province in China, has spread to Chinese communities around the world, especially in Asia, along with the overseas expansion of Chinese. Due to the changes of the deity, the fusion with local religions and beliefs, and the unique prayers of the believers, the Blessings of Mazu has expanded and changed in various fields, such as health, wealth accumulation, romance, and family safety. In this paper, the authors focus on this change and introduce their analysis of the statue of Tenpi, which was newly discovered in Oita in 2021 and passed down by the Ito family, as part of our research on the reception and development of Mazu worship in Japan. This statue of Tenpi was accompanied by two documents from the Meiji and Taisho Periods, one titled "Douzou Shintai Denrai no Ki" ("Record of the transmission of the bronze statue of Tenpi") and another from the Taisho Period, titled "Tenpi Son Denrai no Ki" ("Record of the transmission of the statue of Tenpi"). According to the contents of these documents, the statue was enshrined on a ship given by Toyotomi Hideyoshi to Mori Takamasa, the founder of the Saiki domain, on the occasion of his campaign in Korea. It is said that it was given to the Ito clan, who was a vassal of the Mori clan, at the Meiji Restoration. The appearance of this statue is similar to the Gyoran Kannon statue, but the fact that it has been enshrined as 'Tenpi Sama' for generations in the Mori and Ito families is thought to represent one aspect of the acceptance and development of the belief in Tenpi worship in Japan. |
