内容記述 | The objective of the present study is to conduct participant observation in social welfare professional education involving participation of students and residents using wheelchairs and their caregivers in order to investigate the effects of interactions with disabled individuals on lesson participants. At the same time it discusses issues in “simulation exercises” performed as a method for understanding disabilities. Participants comprised two students using self-propelled wheelchairs, residents using attendant-propelled wheelchairs, their caregivers and homecare workers, and teachers, in addition to 20 students and a government official in charge of barrierfree measures(total, 29 people). We qualitatively analyze the free-response feedback regarding the lessons of 10 university students who consented to the use of feedback for research purposes,as well as interactions observed among participants during lessons. The results shows that while participants tend to limit themselves to gaining a perspective of an “individual model of disability” in simulation exercises, education involving participation of disabled individuals provided opportunities for participants to notice differences in perspective among one another as well as the existence of various disability models, through: 1)sharing and elucidation of different perspectives among disabled individuals and participants, and 2) creation of a marked contrast between an “individual model of disability” and a “social model of disability”. | |||||||||||
