内容記述 | Moritani (2022) sought to place Freud's Concept of Unconsciousness in the context of the history of science, comparing it with physics, medicine, education, and religion. In this paper, we specifically examine its relationship with chemistry. The main results obtained are as follows: ・Psychoanalysis, which delves into the process of mental changes, shares a closer connection with chemistry, which as implied by its name can be chemistry, rather than with physics. ・Chemistry can be categorized into alchemy and modern chemistry. ・The challenge of quantitatively studying changes in substances within chemistry made it mathematically complex, resulting in a delay in advancing chemistry as a science. In 1789, Lavoisier (1743-1794) developed alchemy into modern chemistry with precise measurements and by defining clear technical terms. Lavoisier is called the father of modern chemistry because of this achievement. ・Quantitatively studying the mind is more challenging than studying chemical substances, and this difficulty contributed to a delay in establishing it as a science. However, by the end of the 19th century, psychoanalysis had emerged as a recognized scientific field. ・In this paper, we compared alchemy and modern chemistry, modern chemistry and psychoanalysis, and alchemy and psychoanalysis, using the paintings drawn at that time as materials and positioned psychoanalysis in the history of science. ・Freud learned scientificity from modern chemistry, such as accurate analysis and measurement, creating technical terms that express mental structures, releasing the achievement to the public, and mutual criticism. ・We introduced the historical fact that Lavoisier greatly contributed to investigating Mesmer’s animal magnetism. We pointed out that a difference between psychoanalysis and Mesmer’s animal magnetism is that Freud had an insight into emotional transference. ・Psychoanalytic terms are borrowed from all areas, including physics, medicine, chemistry, alchemy, philosophy, religion, and myths. However, the concept of unconsciousness is unique to psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis is a unique technical term system centered on the concept of unconsciousness. Thus, psychoanalysis is uniquely positioned in the history of science. ・Freud and Jung’s depth psychology led to reevaluating alchemy, which was once dismissed as non-scientific. The symbolic system of alchemy shows the mental change projected on the substance. ・The analysis room of Freud is a locked room, similar to an airtight container essential for modern chemical experiments. However, the atmosphere within the analysis room retains a sense of mystique, where the spirit of alchemy is very present. |
