内容記述 | This study focused on empirical studies of cancer patients in the recurrent/metastatic stage, and extracted their psychological responses and systematically summarized them from four perspectives: factors influencing psychological adjustment, coping, changes in relationships with others, and strength in continuing treatment. Based on the findings, the following suggestions were made for psychological support for cancer patients with recurrence or metastasis. First, it is important for clinical psychologists to assess the patient’s specific coping strategies, their meaning to the patient, their impact on psychological adjustment, and their supporting of the patient’s flexible use of various types of coping strategies as needed. Cancer patients with recurrent or metastatic disease may find it difficult to obtain psychological support due to changes in their relationships with others, including family members and those in the workplace. Therefore, in addition to physical resources, emotional support from medical care providers and close family members is a major source of support for cancer patients with recurrent or metastatic disease. However, it is quite possible that a gap in perception may arise between the patient and the health care provider regarding treatment and future care. Therefore, it is important for clinical psychologists to play a role in connecting patients with medical care providers, and patients with their families. In doing so, it is necessary not only to assess the individual patient, but also to assess the dynamics of the relationship, such as how the relationships surrounding the patient function. Thus, clinical psychologists are sometimes called upon to separate everyone without daring to tell the other about his or her feelings. In the future, it is necessary to further deepen the understanding of the psychological world of cancer patients with recurrent/metastatic disease, through surveys, actual psychological support provided by clinical psychologists, and from there, to seek a form of psychological support that is more suited to the actual conditions of the patients. |
